What is IELTS? 

The first thing you hear when researching about going abroad to study are some words like GMAT, GRE, TOEFL and IELTS. What exactly are these? Well, to start with, every student aspiring to join an educational institution in a foreign nation is required to appear for an entrance exam similar to ones we have in India, viz-a-viz the IITJEE, AIEEE, etc.

International English Language Testing System is a standardized test aimed at evaluating your level of English. IELTS is managed jointly by the British Council, Cambridge ESOL and IDP Australia. IELTS comprises Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing parts to efficiently assess all of your language skills at once. There are the usual theoretic exams such as SAT, GMAT, GRE, etc. but these are needed to be supported with some language efficiency exams such as IELTS (International English Language Testing System) and TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) for students from countries which do not have English as their native language.
